Fire and Gas Mapping Solution

Support with Mapping Services

MSA’s fire and gas mapping solution assists in the evaluation of flame and gas risks within a process facility and seeks to reduce those risks towards an acceptable risk profile. Fire and gas mapping considers the application, sensor technologies, detector placement, zoning, probability of alarming with voting and non-voting systems, and the best measurement range to achieve the highest possible detection coverage - ultimately determining the optimal number of detectors.

Fire and Gas Mapping Solution

Fixed flame and gas detector systems are designed and installed to protect large and complex areas filled with process equipment from risks of combustible or toxic gas leaks, explosions and flames. For these systems to be effective, it is important that they offer a high likelihood of detecting the presence of flame and gas hazards within monitored process areas. Determining the optimal quantity and location of flame and gas detectors is therefore critical to ensure the detection system’s effectiveness.

MSA's fire and gas mapping is a solution that assists in the evaluation of flame and gas risks within a process facility and reducing these risks towards an acceptable risk profile. Fire and gas mapping includes placing of detectors in appropriate locations to achieve the best possible detection coverage..

MSA's fire and gas mapping helps customers:

  • Increase plant safety by improving the likelihood of detecting flame and gas hazards.

For new installations, mapping can help improve the design of new fire & gas systems to mitigate risks from accidental gas releases. For existing installations, mapping provides a method for assessing the risk reduction performance of existing fire & gas detector systems and recommends ways to improve coverage.

  • Optimize resource allocations.

Through mapping, the appropriate types and quantities of flame and gas detectors that provide the desired detection coverage can be objectively determined. Mapping also equips the engineer with the means to measure detection improvements when small incremental design changes are made. Mapping can therefore help minimize overall system costs.

  • Improve design accuracy and engineering efficiency.

With mapping, deciding detector layouts becomes a lot easier because mapping provides a methodical and systematic approach for determining the areas with the highest likelihood of flame and gas risks. Understanding the locations and likelihood of risks helps remove guesswork and inefficiencies from engineering.
